Captain A.V. Nickels Inn offers luxury accommodations in an historic setting. The Inn, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1874 by Captain Nickels as a gift to his bride. It is a breathtaking building sitting on 3 meandering acres directly on the island-studded Penobscot Bay half way between the beautiful towns of Camden and Bar Harbor.
The Inn is often cited as one off the most photographed inns on the Maine coast. To “create a memory” for each guest, they are treated to a level of luxury and attention to detail usually only seen in exclusive small hotels or inns in Europe.
All rooms are furnished with European and American antiques, art, china and decorative touches creating the sophisticated air of a fine country home. Roaring fires on cool evenings, wicker on the lovely front porch, and lawn furniture by the water adds ambiance that invites guests to relax a while and enjoy the beautiful views.
Enjoy an extravagant four course dining experience in a formal setting at The Captain’s Table. We prepare you meal from scratch, using as many local ingredients as possible. Our menu changes each week, based on available, fresh ingredients. A typical offering of entrees include an Aged Angus Steak, a fish or seafood dish, a game selection, and poultry items.
Mid-coast Maine offers a bounty of fresh seafood such as clams, oysters, mussels, squid, fish, and of course lobster and we incorporate these into our menu. We also serve in-house aged Angus Beef. We hand select, cut and age our beef for a minimum of 14 days in order to provide the best possible steak.
Inspired by the exotic ports visited in Captain Nickels’ voyages, The Port of Call Restaurant & Tapas Lounge features a variety of cuisines – from the Mediterranean to the Far East. Sample our tapas menu and share with friends, or order a full entrée. Either way, we will prepare your meal fresh, using as many local ingredients as possible.
The Port of Call has a full bar and extensive wine menu. We also feature at least five local beer selections on tap. And, when the weather is nice, you can enjoy your food and drink on our 1,800 square foot deck overlooking Penobscot Bay.
